Adult Sunday Morning Classes

The Barnabas Factor │ James Bellamy│ Room 217
Everybody loves to be encouraged – a pat on the back, a helping hand, a kind word. Not everyone can be a great preacher or Bible class teacher. But everyone can be an encourager, and that includes you. It doesn’t matter if you are young or old, a woman or a man, rich or poor. God has already given you everything you need to be an encourager – all you have to do is put to use those abilities you already have. You too, can become a Barnabas, a Son of Encouragement. All you have to do is practice being an encourager.

Praying Through the Bible │ Michael White │ Room 221
Even though it may be hard to define prayer to everyone’s satisfaction, it is obviously something that all of us do. In fact, prayer seems to be a universal thing with human beings. It has been said that at least one time in a persons life he will pray, even an atheist. Since prayer is so universal, it is important that we know accurately what the Bible says so that we can be sure that our prayers have value and can prevail with God! Even though it seems to be a universal thing, many of us feel the same way Jesus’ followers asked, “Lord, teach us to pray!”

Forgiven, Forgiveness & Free │ Tom Griffith │ Auditorium
This class is based on Dan Winkler’s book “Forgiven, Forgiveness and Free”. It is about getting past our past, living in peace because we have let it go, knowing we are forgiven. Throughout this class study we will not only be referencing Dan Winkler’s book but also Psalm 51 and David’s prayer in response to being brought to repentance by Nathan.
It is one thing to know we need forgiveness. It is another to know we are forgiven. It is one thing to believe we are forgiven and another thing to know it. That is what this class study is about. We should know we are forgiven and then be free to live as God would have us live – free from sin.
We should live as free people who are free – from guilt, remorse, a sense of failure and a feeling of not being good enough. We should be free from the thought of being a sinner. Therefore there is a need to better understand forgiveness because ultimately, deep down, all of us want forgiveness and to know we are forgiven.
We all need to be forgiven – and know we are forgiven.

Our Father in Heaven: Teach Us To Pray │ Room 204 (Ladies)
This is a class for women who are single again through divorce or death. Our study is an invitation to sit at Jesus’ feet and learn how to pray. Using the Lord’s Prayer as a model and guide, enter the practical classroom of prayer and learn the lessons that God longs to teach you about coming into His presence and experiencing the privilege and power of prayer. This study is based on the book of the same title by Casandra Martin.

Adult Wednesday Evening Classes

You’re Not the Only One – Ladies Class │ Various Teachers │ Room 217
Ladies of all ages are invited to join us this quarter as we study together as sisters in Christ. Romans 12:2 says, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” We will be focused on emotions, because whether or not we like to admit it, we all have them. We all have a twinge of jealousy now and then or experience loneliness or let our anger get the best of us. The important thing to realize is you are not the only one who feels these things. Tami Coble Brown offers insights into how God’s Word and our sisters in Christ can help us through the rough times. Don’t let your emotional bad habits get the best of you. To paraphrase Proverbs 27:17: As iron sharpens iron, so a woman sharpens the countenance of her friend.

Bearing the Fruit of the Spirit │ Blake Graham │ Room 221
The purpose of this series of studies is not only to see the need and the how of having this fruit in our lives, but to see the great benefit that comes from such fruit. If you will remember that the first “qualified” servants in the early church were to be men of “good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom.” (Acts 6:3). To be full of the Holy Spirit was not a reference to having miraculous gifts, but rather it denoted a person who was wholly given to be obedient to the teachings of the Holy Spirit. To be filled with the Spirit is an actual command of God for the Christian (Eph. 5:18-19). A person “full of the Holy Spirit” will certainly have the “fruit of the Spirit!”

The Book of Mark │ Jeremy Weekley │ Auditorium
Although Mark is the shortest of the gospel accounts it is still packed with pictures of Jesus as the Christ. Mark’s unique approach depicts the humanity of Jesus and those who follow Him. Mark devotes significant time focusing on Jesus’ mission to be a servant king. In this quarterlong study we will seek to learn about servanthood in the kingdom as we learn from the ultimate example of the One who came to serve and give His life as a ransom for many.

West End Youth Group Classes

SUNDAY MORNING
Becoming Familiar with the Unfamiliar │ Billy Bearden & Others│ Lighthouse (Middle and High School)
We all know who Peter, James and John are and we’ve heard several stories about Paul and Moses, but what about those we do not know a lot about? During our Sunday mornings together we will be taking a deeper look at some men and women we may have heard of, but are not super familiar with and draw lessons for our everyday lives from the lives they lived.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT
Wanted│Billy Bearden│Lighthouse (Middle and High School)
During our class time on Wednesday nights we will be going through different topics that teenagers struggle and wrestle with on a daily basis. By doing so we will see that not only are we wanted by God but that our friends and our enemies are also wanted by God! This class will function more as a workshop as we literally mark up our Bibles and create paths to clear and easy Bible studies so we can take our Bibles out into the world and share what we’ve studied!
