Baibou, St. Vincent

James & Lucy Stephenson
PO Box 395 Kingstown
St Vincent, West Indies

James Stephenson is a native of Biabou Village in St. Vincent. He met his wife Lucy, who is a native of the Island of Dominica, while they were studying at the Puerto Rico School of Preaching. Ironically, Lucy spoke French and english and James spoke English; some classes in Puerto Rico were taught in English while others were taught in Spanish.

Upon completion of their studies, they moved back to St. Vincent where James began preaching for the Biabou congregation and Lucy began teaching school and was later promoted to principal of a school. James replaced Samuel Alexander, about the year 1988 or 1989, who came to the United States. The couple is very dedicated to the cause of Christ. They are humble servants, and work diligently to minister not only the Biabou congregation, but to people all over St. Vincent.

In addition to preaching to the congregation, James presents a weekly TV ministry. He and several other ministers and members get together weekly to canvas an area. They rotate villages that they canvas, and also use the time together to strengthen and encourage each other to remain focused on their commitment to the cause of Christ.

Vehicles are very scarce for members of the Biabou congregation and due to the mountainous terrain, it is difficult for some members to get back and forth to worship. He and Lucy use their personal vehicle to make several trips to transport people to and from worship service. James does a tremendous job in following up on World Bible School Students. Several of the WBS students have obeyed the gospel.

Lucy has some health problems that restrict her to some extent. However, she is very active with the ladies programs and the youth. She is also well known and respected on the Island.

West End has coordinated and made various mission trips to St. Vincent to assist the Biabou Village in spreading the gospel to the lost, to help in revival meetings, to conduct a leadership seminar, to conduct a medical mission, etc. Many lives have been touched by the gospel, and some have been converted.
