The West End Church
library is located in the office area of the building, across from the secretaries'
office. All materials are cataloged in the computer and the information can be
accessed on computers in the library and in the teacher's media center. A card
catalog was kept up to date through about the year 1998.
Materials in the library
are for all members, including children, teachers, and casual readers. There
are over 7000 books, 1800 video tapes, and 1700 audio cassette tapes. Donations
and memorials are constantly adding new materials to the collection. There are
back-issues of religious magazines and two sets of slides - one on the Holy Land
and one about Cane Ridge in Kentucky.
To check out a book,
video, or audio tape, the user simply signs his/her name, dates the card with
the check-out date, and drops the card in the designated box in the library.
The same procedure can be done with books kept on a cart in the foyer - books
which are changed some every week.
There is also a "Library
Work Day," usually on the last Saturday of the month, when volunteers work
to keep the library running smoothly.
New: Church Library Online Catalog
| TIMOTHY’S
RAGIN’ READERS |
* Two
copies of the book list will be available in the library. Mrs. Sain will also
have a copy of the book list.
* All the books listed are on the “Children’s Library” shelves
at the back of the library, which is across from the secretaries’ office.
* To check out a book:
* sign the card from the pocket in the back of the book;
* date the card with the date it is checked out;
* put the signed and dated card in the designated box beside the card catalog;
* return the book to the “Book Return” box just inside and to the
right of the door of the library when finished with it.
* Each child is expected to read 10 books during the quarter:
* "Reading" a book can include being read to, reading with someone,
or reading by yourself;
* There are a few read-along books on the list--ones which have an audio cassette
tape with the book;
* One section of the reading list has books which should be read with a parent
because of the nature of the book’s contents;
* The reading levels are suggestions only. A parent should monitor what his/her
child is reading to assure that it is the appropriate level for that child.
* A copy of the reading
list is available here. |
